Track your local rankings and get the big picture

To track how well your local SEO campaign is going you’ll need to use a local rank tracker like Semrush’s Listing Management tool. A free tool like Google Search Console is useful, but it only shows organic positions, so doesn’t give you the complete picture of how you’re doing locally.

Open Semrush’s Listing Management tool and click the Local Rankings tab. Here, you’ll see your average position in the Google Local Finder results for up to five keywords based on your target locations. Premium users can also access Heatmap for a more granular look at their rankings in a given area.

The Local Finder shows a larger list of local businesses; you can access it through the “more places” link located at the bottom of the Local Pack.

Local Finder is a subset of Google Search and its results are related to searches of very specific types of businesses within a small geographic zone. Google Maps shows results covering a broader area. While Local Finder usually shows more details about the businesses, including products, Maps includes attribute icons. Also, they have two different paths: google.com/search vs. google.com/maps.

Yes. With the Listing Management basic plan, you only get access to the Local Rankings report, which shows your local rankings in Google Local Finder. To use Heatmap, you have to upgrade your location to Premium.
